George Eliot (1819-1880)
Mary Anne Evans, who wrote under the pseudonym George Eliot, was born on November 22, 1819, at South Farm, Arbury Hall in Warwickshire. She passed away in her sleep on December 22, 1880, and was buried next to her lifelong companion, George Lewes.

There is a liner-weaver in Lantern Yard Silas Marner by name. He belongs to the Methodist sect of Christianity and used to be a deeply religious man. But he is falsely accused of having stolen a clergyman's money. So he has migrated to a distant village called Raveloe. Here he has settled down as a linen-weaver in a cottage situated at some distance from the village but close to a site called Stone-pit. His only passion is to hoard gold and money. But his possession is stolen by Dunstan Cass. So he behaves madly. He seeks for his treasure but fails. Instead of his money and gold, he gets an orphan girl, Eppie. Eppie is being nourished by Silas as his own daugh-ter with the help of Dolly Winthrop. Actually, she is the daughter of Godfrey Cass and Molly Farren. Her father and step-mother, Nancy Lammeter try to take her back. But she refuses this proposal. She does not want to spare her father, Silas Maraer. She loves Aaron Winthrop and ulti-mately they are married.
